Our notarial practice is committed to serving the wider international community.
As our notary was born Brazilian, the Brazilian community abroad is one of the ones closest to her heart, reason for which we have such expertise in Brazilian matters.
Documents for use in Brazil often ask parties to quote their “CPF”. This is a national tax identification number for individuals, and is necessary if you are obtaining or disposing of any property in Brazil.
You can obtain this from abroad, without needing to travel to Brazil, either from the Consulate, or (due to the pandemic) remotely, directly from the relevant Federal Agency. It’s quite simple!
For Brazilian citizens
To request a new CPF number, or alter or regularise your existing CPF, fill in the online form on the website, available at the following link:
https://www.gov.br/mre/pt-br/consulado-londres/cpf-and-fgts/cpf
Make sure your “pop-up” blocker is disabled, otherwise it will not be possible to complete your request.
Once you have that code, send the request to the email address
cpf.residente.exterior@rfb.gov.br
attaching the documents listed below, in PDF or JPEG format (no other formats or links to storage clouds are accepted):
- Individual registration form (FCPF), duly filled in and signed;
- Identification document of the interested party (passport, identity card, driving licence, work book, foreign residence document issued by the country in which the person resides, etc.);
- Brazilian birth or marriage certificate; Voter registration card or consultation on the TSE website with the title number, for citizens over 18 years of age;
- If the request is made by the interested party, a “selfie” in which s/he appears holding his/her open identification document, close to the face, for the purpose of confirming identity.
- For children under 16 years old: send identification document and parent’s “selfie”, holding their own identification document (not the minor’s).
For non-Brazilian citizens
To request a new CPF number, or alter or regularise your existing CPF, fill in the online form on the website, available at the following links:
